The European Payments Council (EPC) has announced a delay to the planned end date of the unstructured address format, which was initially set for November 2026, across all five EPC payment scheme rulebooks. The decision reflects the EPC's ongoing assessment of the impacts and readiness of stakeholders involved in the transition to a structured address format.
Key takeaways
- ▸EPC is postponing the transition to structured address formats.
- ▸The initial deadline of November 2026 for the unstructured format has been delayed.
- ▸All five EPC payment scheme rulebooks will be affected by this change.
Why this matters
This delay provides payment service providers and banks additional time to prepare for the transition, mitigating potential disruptions. However, it may also prolong reliance on outdated address formats, potentially affecting the efficiency of payment processing across Europe.
